Queensberry Real Estate has been selected by Newport City Council to deliver a new modern shopping centre in the heart of Newport City Centre. Friars Walk will offer over 390,000 sq ft (36,230 sqm) of retail and leisure space which includes a full offer Debenhams department store, a Cineworld multiplex cinema, and a wide range of shops and restaurants all supported by a new modern 350 space car park and bus station.
Having successfully hosted the Ryder Cup in 2010 and with an ambitious vision that could lead to up to £2 billion of public/private investment in the City, Newport’s regeneration is going from strength to strength. At the heart of the City’s rejuvenation is Newport’s 2020 Vision: a master plan of citywide regeneration schemes and projects. This ambitious programme aims to reinforce the City as an economic engine for South East Wales, realising its national and international potential and delivering a prosperous, vibrant, inclusive and forward-thinking City. In addition to the main department store and leisure offer, Friars Walk will become home to new major stores from high street retailers including Top Shop, Next and New Look. Designed as a covered street scape the scheme will complement the existing historic high street while also creating a family orientated dining destination around Usk Plaza, facing onto the River Usk and out towards Rodney Parade, Newports combined rugby/football stadium. Restaurants will include Cosmo, GBK, Prezzo, Nando’s and Chiquito.
