Barnsley Council and Queensberry have announced that two stylish new bars have signed up to The Glass Works and are set to open in December – building on Barnsley’s already thriving food & drink scene.

The new venues are from True Independent Group (TiG), who also run the popular Cucina Sky Lounge in Market Kitchen, BARiSTA coffee shop and Cucina Bar in Penistone.

The largest of the two venues, SALT ROCK, will be located on the corner of Eldon Street and Kendray Street. This exciting day-to-night venue will serve quality local and continental food alongside specialist cocktails throughout the day and late into the night.

The second venue, BLACK & WHiTE, will be located on May Day Green. This small and elegant bar will boast over 100 wines on its menu, which can be enjoyed with great tapas – all made from locally sourced produce.

The announcements are another example of the confidence that is spreading through the town centre, with new tenants encouraged by the town’s regeneration, rejuvenated local economy and strong post-Covid footfall figures.

Alex Hyams, Senior Leasing Manager, Queensberry, commented:

“Interest in The Glass Works remains strong. We are delighted with these latest deals, which see a regional operator bring two fresh and contemporary concepts to The Glass Works square. We continue to work hard to attract more high-quality occupiers to the town and will be making some exciting announcements in the weeks and months ahead.”

Matthew Crisp, Managing Director of TiG, added:

“We are delighted to be investing in Barnsley. Our new venues will open before Christmas and we are confident they will take Barnsley’s nightlife to a new level – bringing a more refined and sophisticated offer into the heart of the town. Our ambition is to deliver venues of undeniable quality for the people of Barnsley. As shown with Cucina Sky Lounge in Market Kitchen, our fit-outs are second to none and we believe the new bars will be up there with anything the big cities have to offer.”
