Queensberry has secured a new food hall operator at its Metquarter shopping centre in Liverpool. The Milestone Group has signed on to take 11,000 sq ft branded as GPO Food Hall – a nod to the site’s previous use as the General Post Office, although now reimagined as ‘Global Provisions Outlet’.
GPO will be Liverpool’s largest food hall, with a starting line-up that includes Chit ‘n’ Chaat, MorMor, Monkeyboard Coffee, Patty B’s Burgers and more independent vendors. The food hall, which opened last week, faces onto the recently upgraded Victoria Street and sits next to Everyman Cinema. The opening will create more than 130 new jobs. The food hall also includes a grab and go area.
GPO will use iBe Loyalty – a multi-restaurant ordering platform – allowing guests to order from their seat or while shopping within Metquarter. The food hall will be open Sunday to Thursday 8.30am until 11pm, and 8.30am until midnight on Friday and Saturdays.
Queensberry senior asset and leasing manager Alex Hyams told Property Week:
“The Metquarter is a microcosm of repurposing in its own right. We bought the shopping centre back in 2016 and the idea was that we needed leisure to balance things out. The decline in retail of course accelerated this and made us think a lot more of this space needed to come from alternative uses.”
The Milestone Group founder and director Matt Bigland said:
“After months of hard work, we’re thrilled to finally open the doors to the food hall and invite the city of Liverpool to enjoy the unique independent vendors on offer. The GPO will be a hub for Liverpool’s emerging food hall scene and will showcase the best in up-and-coming food and drink talent in the heart of Liverpool City Centre.”
