QUEENSBERRY ANNOUCES THE IVY AND OKA
Thursday 22nd September 2016
Queensberry has announced the prestigious Ivy Collection and luxury British homewares brand OKA to anchor its regeneration project in Guildford, Tunsgate Quarter, formerly known as Tunsgate Square.
The rebrand to Tunsgate Quarter reflects Queensberry’s vision to create an expanded retail hub, embracing complimentary retailers adjacent to the scheme, the High Street and Guildford Castle.
Owners of The Ivy, Caprice Holdings will take 8,500 sq. ft. located over two levels, including an alfresco dining terrace, with views over Guildford’s historic castle and gardens. The Ivy Collection boasts a world famous restaurant collection with brands such as The Ivy, J. Sheekey, Le Caprice and recently Sexy Fish.
OKA will take 11,000 sq.ft. to showcase its covetable collection of furniture, lighting, soft furnishings and home accessories. Founded in 1999, OKA combines both contemporary and traditional styles of interiors creating inspirational designs for homes around the world.
Work on site has commenced on the re-development of the 80,000 sq. ft. retail and leisure scheme, located in the very heart of Guildford town centre and terms have already been agreed on 50 per cent of the scheme to premium restaurant, fashion and other lifestyle brands.
Stuart Harris, Commercial Director and Co-founder of Queensberry said:
Guildford is an affluent town, with an excellent retail offer, with Tunsgate Quarter at its heart. We are creating something very special and new for Guildford, that connects the High Street, Tunsgate and Castle Street. The interest and commitment from high-quality operators such as The Ivy Collection and OKA is clear testament to the sophisticated new retail and dining offer we are creating.”
Frances Dore, Director of Marketing for The Ivy Collection said,
We are delighted to launch a brasserie in Tunsgate Quarter in Guildford. Our portfolio of restaurants attracts a varied audience wanting to dine in an accessible yet sophisticated environment.”
Annabel Astor, Executive Vice Chairman and OKA co-founder, commented:
With a loyal and growing customer base in the surrounding area, Guildford is an obvious location to house our 14th store. Working closely with Queensberry, we have created our largest and most inspiring store outside of London, one that we hope will become a true destination for everything you need to furnish a home.”
Tunsgate Quarter will deliver a premium shopping and dining destination, comprising 26 units in total, (18 retail units and 8 restaurants), when it is scheduled to open in October 2017. The creation of two new levels to the rear will open up the scheme to views over Guildford Castle and its gardens.
Paul Spooner, Leader of Guildford Borough Council, commented:
It’s great to see work starting on the Tunsgate site. Transforming the existing shopping centre and opening up the aspect overlooking the Castle will give more leisure opportunities for people to enjoy, as well as a better retail experience and fourteen new homes. We want a vibrant and thriving town centre and this is just one part of our aim to help regenerate and improve what Guildford has to offer.”
