The next stage in Sheffield's Heart of the City II scheme has taken another step forward, with a planning application being submitted to the local planning authority for approval.

Block C, often referred to as the Pepper Pot, fronts on to Pinstone Street and plans include the retention of the attractive Victorian facade of th eexixting structure, while redeveloping and expanding the building behind it.

Proposals for this block were presentes at public consultation events in September. It will feature five retail units on the ground floor and 37,000 sq ft of premium Grade A office space on the seven floors above. 

Cllr Mazher Iqbal, Cabinet Member for Business and Investment at Sheffield City Council, said:

During our public consultation in September we received very valuable feedback which we have listened to and used to refine proposals for the Pepper Pot."

While converting into a mix of retail uses and Grade A offices, we are also retaining the striking Pinstone Street facade so as to preserve as much of the city's heritage as possible. It is an excellent blend of providing for the future while maintaining vistas of our past.

This development continues the momentum which is seeing the heart of the city changing before our eyes with an innovative mix of retail, residential and office uses as well as stunning public realm improvements that will continue to make Sheffield attractive to businesses and investors."

Building on the success of the original Heart of the City scheme, Sheffield City Council approved the 1.5million sq ft masterplan in MArch this year. The scheme will significantly regenerate the area of the city centre sitting between Barker's Pool, the Peace Gardens and The Moor, creating a dynamic mixed-use district with premium retail and leisure brands, Grade A offices, contemporary residential space and attractive public realm.

Construction on Phase One of the scheme, which was designed by Leonard Design Architects and includes the flagship new HSBC office, is nearing completion and is expected to be ready for fit-out easrly next year.

More than 250 people attended the two public drop-in sessions as part of the consultiation on Block C, which took place at The Art House and Sheffield Winter Garden in September. Visitors were able to view and discuss the proposals with members of the project team and provice feedback that contributed to the finalisation of the plan.

Subject to planning, construction of the new block would commence in spring 2019, with completion expected by the end of 2020.
