Reflecting the challenges of a complex construction project, the opening of Tunsgate Quarter in Guildford has been moved to February 2018. When complete, the 80,000 sq ft retail, restaurant and residential redevelopment will provide a sophisticated and stylish hub in the heart of the town centre.

Stuart Harris, Commercial Director and Co-Founder of the developer, Queensberry, said:

Due to the complex nature of the build and the desire to open the scheme fully finished and to the highest specification we have decided to defer the opening of Tunsgate Quarter until February 2018. This will enable us to ensure that both our tenants and visitors enjoy the best quality experience in fantastic surroundings with a great choice of shops, cafes, and restaurants"

Construction work requires both new build and reconfiguration of the space and has included the demolition and rebuilding of large sections of the building such as the installation of a new eye-catching steel and glazed roof. The scheme includes spectacular views across Guildford Castle and gardens, and a striking new atrium in the middle.

An art deco design by architects Lyons + Sleeman + Hoare will add significant appeal for Guildford, both internally and when viewed externally from the surrounding streets. The additional construction period will allow additional aesthetic embellishments to be included.

The proposed opening date is expected to be announced in September.
