Tunsgate Quarter, the 80,000 sq ft high-quality shopping and dining destination in Guildford town centre opened at 11am on Thursday 15th March with a ribbon cutting ceremony with a twist.
To mark the centre’s official opening, The White Company, one of the centre’s new lifestyle brands, created a bespoke floral garland, inspired by spring for the ribbon cutting, which was cut by the Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Nigel Manning. Alongside the Mayor were Stuart Harris and Jon Munce of Queensberry, Leader of Guilford Borough Council, Paul Spooner and Managing Director of Guilford Borough Council, James Whiteman. A large crowd gathered outside the entrance, waiting for their first opportunity to see inside the new centre. Once the ribbon was cut, the waiting crowd was so large it took over five minutes to process into Tunsgate Quarter.
Paul Sargent, Chief Executive of Queensberry, said:
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming our first customers to the new centre. Including store fit-outs, over £30 million has been invested into Tunsgate Quarter to create an attractive and appealing shopping and dining destination with a stunning new atrium at its heart. We’re so pleased with the way our vision has been brought to life connecting the High Street, Tunsgate and Castle Street and we’re delighted to be able to share this with everyone in Guildford. With terms agreed now on over 85% of the space we expect the last few units to let up quickly.”
Paul Spooner, Leader of Guildford Borough Council, adds:
“It has been exciting to see the vision we supported for Tunsgate Quarter come to life. The design of the centre has been delivered with sensitivity to come of Guildford’s iconic landmarks, offering outstanding views of, and now from, Guildford Castle. Once, complete, our own improvement works on Tunsgate will elevate the area even further.”
