Queensberry Real Estate has been selected by Newport City Council to deliver a new modern shopping centre in the heart of Newport City Centre. Friars Walk will offer over 390,000 sq ft (36,230 sqm) of retail and leisure space which includes a full offer department store, a multiplex cinema, a wide range of shops and restaurants, all supported by a new modern car park and bus station.
Having successfully hosted the Ryder Cup in 2010 and with an ambitious vision that could lead to up to £2 billion of public/ private investment in the City, Newport’s regeneration is going from strength to strength.
At the heart of the City’s rejuvenation is Newport’s 2020 Vision: a master plan of citywide regeneration schemes and projects. This ambitious programme aims to reinforce the City as an economic engine for South East Wales, realising its national and international potential and delivering a prosperous, vibrant, inclusive and forward-thinking City.
Remarkable in both scale and scope, Newport’s 2020 Vision includes a revitalised station district, an enhanced riverfront – home to the theatre and arts centre and a new £35 million university campus – a refreshed retail core, a wealth of hi-spec office spaces and much more.
Due to open in Autumn 2015 Friars Walk has been re-modelled to provide 390,000 sq ft of modern retail and leisure accommodation which will include:
A full offer department store
5 major store units
A multiplex cinema
30 new shop units
A new restaurant quarter of 7 family restaurants
A convenience food store
A 400 space car park
A new bus station
Friars Walk is located in the heart of the city centre with access from Commercial Street via Austin Friars, Friars Street, and LLanarth Street. Shoppers will be able to use Friars Walk’s dedicated shopper car park where they will have the choice of entering the scheme at the Department Store end or directly in to the Restaurant Quarter.
Friars Walk also benefits from being adjacent to a new 1000 space car park.
The new leisure offer will be opposite the Riverside Theatre and Arts Centre, the new University of Wales Campus, Newport Leisure Centre and the new link bridge to Rodney Parade (home of Newport Gwent Dragons).
A cluster of 7 restaurants with outside seating will sit around Usk Plaza offering a wide variety of dining choices open day and evening.
